Manny Pacquiao escaped with a narrow majority decision win against his Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez Sunday afternoon (Manila time) before a mammoth crowd of at least 16,000 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The judges' scorecards read 114-114 by Robert Hoyle, 115-113 for Dave Moretti and 116-112 for Glenn Trowbridge to retain his World Boxing Organizaion (WBO) welterweight belt. While CompuBox statistics show an advantage for the champ as Pacquiao landed 176 of 578 punches in contrast to 138 of 436 for Marquez.

The battle was very tactical and slow paced with each fighter trying to gain the rhythm and pace of the fight, sizing up each other while waiting patiently for mistakes that did not materialize clearly for both boxers.

Pacquiao as usual was the aggressor of the bout though not sufficient enough in his own standards, while Marquez employed a side to side and backward constant movement to fend off the bullish approach of the pound for pound king.

Amidst the howling of the crowd and falling debris thrown his way, Sarranggani Congressman Pacquiao showed confidence and poise to declare himself a clear winner, even though the booing of the crowd almost drowned the audio of the post fight interview.
